China in Motion

7 July – 2 October 2008

An exhibition about the dramatic effects of migration and new construction on Beijing and Shanghai in the run-up to the 2008 Olympic Games.

Image11ChinaInMotion This group exhibition focused on the extraordinary changes taking place in Beijing and Shanghai both in terms of urban landscape and social infrastructure with existing communities being moved to new housing and huge numbers of other ‘migrant’ workers moving to the cities. The exhibition included photography by Edward Burtynsky, Natalie Behring and Helen Couchman as well as models, digital installations and a newly commissioned film: Honey & Bubbles, directed by Antoine Breton, which told the story of changing Beijing from the perspective of a local beekeeper and a Beijing taxi driver.
