Shaping the future

Arup Foresight has developed a range of world-class tools and platforms to support creative thinking, foresight, strategy and innovation programmes. Our global Drivers of Change programme is recognised as the leading tool to identify and examine the major global issues and trends driving change in the built environment. The Inspire insights database showcases over 1,500 emerging examples of innovation and change to facilitate foresight and strategic thinking.

Drivers of Change

Our Drivers of Change programme investigates the key global issues and trends driving change in the built environment. From climate change to urbanisation to poverty, each set examines the top 25 drivers of change impacting our societies and markets.

The Drivers of Change cards help facilitate conversations about the future and are utilised globally in learning programmes, strategy workshops and innovation processes.

Our Climate Change and Ocean Health Drivers of Change cards examine the key issues, consequences and solutions relating to anthropogenic climate change and the devastating impact of rising temperatures on the health of our oceans.

Download our free Drivers of Change app to access our latest drivers of change in an engaging and simple to use platform.

Inspire

Our Inspire insights database supports the collection and communication of insights as part of a dedicated horizon scanning programme. With over 1,500 emerging insights and ideas highlighting change and innovation in the built environment, Inspire helps to future-proof design and enable strategic thinking.

From textiles made from banana fibre to 3D printed coral reefs, find emerging ideas and case studies from around the world. Arup Inspire is an online tool to research innovation across the built environment. An international network of built environment professionals from across Arup shares local projects on a global scale. Through detailed research and careful selection, the tool captures new ideas and unexpected solutions.

Outcome-led road infrastructure design framework

An outcome-led design framework for road infrastructure considers economic, social and environmental drivers equally, aiming for future-proof and context-relevant infrastructure.

Multi-use kerb concept

LEDs embedded into the kerb and informed by real-time data could enable more flexible streets, helping to improve road capacity and safety.

Modular air taxi skyport concept

This ‘mega’ skyport concept for air taxis can be reconfigured for different contexts, i.e. over highways or on top of skyscrapers, with capacity for 10,000 passengers per hour transforming urban mobility.

7see

Examine the complex relationship between economic activity, growth and emissions. Using an evidence-based approach, the 7see model makes projections about the nature of economic activity in the near future. The model identifies how the interlocking parts of our economy use energy, and makes clear how and where employment and wealth are generated.
